The 97th Academy Awards, held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, celebrated a year of cinematic brilliance, with independent films taking center stage. Hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, the ceremony balanced humor with heartfelt tributes, marking a memorable night in Hollywood.

Leading the accolades was Sean Baker’s “Anora,” a poignant comedy-drama that swept five major awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison. Madison’s portrayal of the titular character resonated with audiences and critics alike, earning her the coveted statuette.


Adrien Brody’s compelling performance in “The Brutalist” earned him the Best Actor award, adding to the film’s three-Oscar tally, which included Best Cinematography and Best Original Score. Kieran Culkin’s role in “A Real Pain” garnered him the Best Supporting Actor award, while Zoë Saldaña made history as the first Dominican-American to win an Oscar, securing Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Emilia Pérez.”


The animated feature “Flow” from Latvia triumphed in the Best Animated Feature category, marking a significant achievement for open-source software animation. In the documentary realm, “No Other Land” took home the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.


The ceremony also honored industry veterans Quincy Jones and Juliet Taylor with honorary awards, recognizing their enduring contributions to cinema.
